渗铝板可分为两类，第一类是以耐热性为主的可以耐640℃左右的高温，它是在低碳钢板的两侧各镀上20-25µm厚的AlSi合金（Si含量为6-8.5﹪）镀层；第二类以耐腐蚀性为主，其镀层是第一类的2-3倍。渗铝板一般以热浸或固体粉末等方法渗铝。第一类耐高温的形成AlFeSi合金层，第二类耐腐蚀形成AlFe合金层。由于耐腐蚀的渗铝板镀层厚熔点低，其焊接性相对较差。由于渗铝板具有较好抗高温、抗氧化和耐腐蚀性，价格便宜，已在我国石油、化工、电力、汽车及轻工部门得到广泛的应用。

镀铝钢板的镀铝层是由铝、硅和铁元素组成。经日本的一些机构检测证实，未化学钝化的镀铝钢板符合食品卫生法，对人体的健康无害，可直接应用于食品加工。废旧的镀铝钢板也完全可以循环使用。
