槽钢是由含碳量小于0.25%的碳结构钢或者低合金钢钢坯压制而成，经过热加工成形、正火或者热轧状态成形。

主要用于厂房建筑结构、幕墙工程、机械设备配件和制造车辆钢材。槽钢需要具有较好的焊接性、铆接性和机械性能。

槽钢分热轧槽钢和弯曲槽钢，热轧槽钢又分为普通型和轻型两种；槽钢规格从5号到40号，相应高度为5～40cm；

在相同高度情况下，轻型槽钢比普通槽钢的腿窄、腰薄、重量轻。槽钢用于装饰装修，户外广告牌支架，钢结构板房等较多。

槽钢规格型号是以高度（h）、腿宽（b）、腰厚度（d）等尺寸表示，国产槽钢规格从5-40号，就是表示相对应的高度是5-40cm。

槽钢在相同高度下，轻型槽钢比普通槽钢的腿窄、腰薄、重量轻。18-40号为大型槽钢，5-16号槽钢为中型槽钢。
